Fields of Lavender

Description

She was walking through a field of lavender, the sweet scent of the flowers reaching her nose. She smiled. This was her favourite walk, winding, beautiful. All she could see was a sea of purple, ending with a wall of green and blue.

But the gentle breeze carried something ominous. A scent that didn't quite belong. She stopped and looked around, searching. About to turn back, she stopped as the sky abruptly turned dark. In front of her was a miasma of darkness, forming into life. It turned into a creature. Ugly, gigantic, bloodthirsty. It spotted her immediately and roared. She didn't know if it was fear or awe that rooted her feet to the ground like the flowers around her, but she did not- could not move.

The creature raised an arm, about to strike. There was a loud boom and the air around her felt like it gave way, pushing at her but not toppling her. She heard wing beats and before she could blink, a flurry of shining feathers dashed over her head and toward the creature.

The angel struck the creature's arm with an icy sword, his arms strong and skin dark. The creature wailed but before it could retaliate, the angel gave a shout and buried his sword in its belly. The sword shattered into thousands of blue butterflies, changing the creature along with it. In moments, hundreds of tens of thousands of sapphire wings fluttered into the sky, dotting the purple of the flowers and resting upon it.

The whole time, the girl did not move, even when the angel came up to her. He looked into her eyes for a moment, then knelt on one knee in front of her, bowing his head. He spoke in a different language, yet she found herself understanding him perfectly.

"My lady."

"Are you my guardian angel?" She reached a delicate hand out to touch him, see if it was real.

He took her hand and gently kissed it. "Yes, my lady." He held on to it, still kneeling, still bowed. "I have watched you since you were born, and I will continue to until the day that you die."

"Thank you," was all she could say.

The angel stood in front of her and gave her a smile before he leapt into the sky, powerful and luminous wings taking him up, up, higher, higher, into the clouds.

She watched him until she could see him no longer. She stayed there, for how long, she didn't know, until a single butterfly landed on her shoulder. It was then she finally moved, continuing her journey through a field of lavender.

Phew!
.
Done for a friend of mine. She calls me her guardian angel and wanted a picture of her and her angel. Of course, I can never just draw me as... well me. So I was inspired to draw this and write a little piece to go with it.
.
The background is a combination of a few pictures I found on Google images and run through a photoshop filter. Seriously, combining those images to get the right one was a paiiinnn.
.
Coloured with Prismacolour markers and edited in photoshop.

Hope you enjoy. (: Comments appreciated.
